The whole inventory on one surface, sorted by news value. The processing stage is a filter — not a place you have to find first.
What you can do with it
- Filter the inventory by processing stage: All, New, Classified, With facts, Checked, Written.
- Sort by news value (0–100) instead of chronologically — what has substance is at the top.
- Search across titles, tags and detected entities: tickers, company names, topics.
- Include and exclude topics, pick a time window, set a news-value floor.
- Trigger a bulk action that matches the stage: “New” classifies, “Classified” extracts facts, “With facts” checks and researches — on your selection or on the loaded filter.
- Work on a single story: check facts, research, pull financial data, jump to the source.
- Keep a stage as a bookmark — it lives in the address bar (?status=classified), and the back button works.
The thinking behind it
There were five pages for five processing stages. They all render the same list, just with different filters. So the stage was already a data value and did not need an address of its own.
The practical damage was worse than the duplication: anyone who wanted to know what was next had to guess the stage and navigate there. That exact question — “show me what I have to write about now” — had no surface.
Now there is one inventory and six filters. And because the order follows news value rather than the clock, what is actually a story sits at the top.

Improvements
The news stream becomes the front door
One inventory, six status filters instead of five menu items. Sorted by news value by default — which meant teaching the list to sort by news value at all; before, it could only be filtered on. The status lives in the address bar, so bookmarks and the back button work.
Bulk actions hang off the selection
The action follows the chosen stage: “New” classifies, “Classified” extracts facts, “With facts” checks and researches. With nothing selected, the loaded filter applies, capped server-side at 200 stories.
Work on a story sits with the story
Starting a fact-check or a research run for a single story, reading its log and its result — that used to live on a page of its own. It now hangs off the story itself. “Pull financial data” became a single-story action on the card as well.
Every old address still leads somewhere
The retired stage pages redirect in a single hop to the status filter that matches them. No bookmark hits an error page.
