The working day starts with a state line.
Is the automation running, waiting, or off? And if something went wrong, it says so at the top — not in a footer.
What you can do with it
- See at a glance whether the automation is running (with its phase), waiting or off.
- Read the last error where you notice it — with a direct route to the control room, where you can do something about it.
- Follow the funnel over today, 30 days or all time: received, classified, full text, facts, checked, researched, articles, approved.
- Read the absolute number and the share of the previous stage for each step.
The thinking behind it
A status bar ran along the foot of every single page — permanently visible, with no occasion for it, and with numbers the funnel already shows. The one thing it had exclusively was the operating state.
That now sits at the top of the surface the working day starts on. What prompts action belongs up top, not in a footer.
As a side effect the newsroom got quieter: the state is refreshed every 30 seconds instead of every 12 seconds on every single page.
Errors go to the top.
Improvements
Status bar retired, operating state moved up
The bar in the page footer is gone. “Today” now opens with a state line: is the automation running (with its phase), waiting, off — plus the last error and a route to the control room.
Approval as the final funnel stage
The funnel stopped at “articles”. It now ends where a person agreed.
No more invented zeros
On a failed request — after an expired session, say — the display read “0 news” and “automation off” while the pipeline was running and hundreds of thousands of stories sat in the database. It now says “state unknown”, with a note.
